Obtaining the permanent Partner visa is a two stage process. In the first stage you will need to be granted for the temporary Partner visa that is valid for two years from the date of application. After two years, relationship between partner and Australian partner is assessed again and if it is still valid, Permanent residence visa is granted and applicant can get permanent residence status in Australia. Applicant can be granted for Permanent visa immediately if it is long term relationship or marriage, or if the couple gets newborn baby soon after being granted for temporary visa.
Applicants who are granted permanent partner visa are getting Permanent Resident status. Permanent Residents have right to live, work and study in Australia indefinitely. Additional benefits of permanent residence status in Australia is the access to medical care (Medicare), benefits of social issurance and opportunity to apply for Australian citizenship.
Curently the visa fee is 9.095AUD. You pay only one fee, which covers the processing fee for the temporary visa and permanent and you pay this fee when you lodge your application. In most cases, visa application fees can not be refunded, even if you withdraw your application, or your visa is refused.
There may be additional costs if you want to add family members on your application.
The average period of processing application for partner visa is from 15 to 20 months (it changes on monthly basis).
